We are a 100% volunteer-run 501(c)(3) federally recognized nonprofit organization.

Bulava, Inc. was created by Ukrainian professionals living in the Washington DC metro area with direct ties to family and friends in Ukraine.

Our team created Bulava to help support our family and friends in Ukraine who are facing challenges due to the ongoing full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. What started as a small organization to help our close ones has grown profoundly to an operation that partners with many efforts on the ground to provide supplies to medical facilities, orphanages, children’s centers, animal shelters, nursery homes, and schools.

We invite you to join our efforts.

What does “Bulava” mean in the Ukrainian language?

Historically, the “Bulava” was a small but powerful weapon (mace) used by the Cossacks. It is now the official emblem of the President of Ukraine, symbolizing strength and power. Compared to international aid organizations, Bulava is small, but it is mighty. We focus on specific and impactful projects.

How we operate:

Our board members speak daily with Ukrainian citizens still living in the villages and towns that don’t make the newsfeeds. Many of those we coordinate with were our neighbors or colleagues that we know and trust. Since our organizational scope has grown, we have partnered with vetted organizations operating in Ukraine. We conduct a lengthy due-diligence process when working with our Ukrainian partners. However, the core of our work is focused on family and friends that we know directly.

Our process:

The Bulava team maintains a start-to-finish accountability system. When we partner with Ukrainian organizations or volunteers, we go through a lengthy due-diligence process to ensure that our support, whether monetary or material, ends up in the hands of those who need it most. We provide 100% visibility to our sponsors and donors along the way.

“We must bring our own light to the darkness.”

— Charles Bukowski
